HISTORY

Our vision is for all children to have a high-quality history education to help pupils gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world and inspire pupils’ curiosity to more about the past.

We intend that pupils will become equipped to ask perceptive questions, think critically, ponder evidence, and develop perspective and judgement.

Interlinked with this are studies of world history, such as the ancient civilisations of Greece and the Mayans.

The curriculum champion for History is Mrs Katie Irvine.  To find out more about how Rowledge delivers this subject please contact her using the following email address: k.irvine@rowledge.hants.sch.uk

NATIONAL CURRICULUM

Our overview for the planning and delivery of History at Rowledge is led by the statutory, National Curriculum guidance and the relevant programmes of study for each year group.

School CURRICULUM

PROGRESSION & ASSESSMENT

We have aligned a progression of skills and knowledge with the programmes of study for each year group.

The documents below outline this progression and is used when assessing the ongoing progress of pupils.

PUPIL VOICE

We regularly conference pupils to gain an awareness of their attitudes to a range of curriculum subjects.  Below is a sample of thoughts from a range of pupils about how they feel about the History curriculum at Rowledge.

KS1 PUPIL

"In year R we learnt about our families.  We talked about my Granny and Grandpa.  They are part of my history!"

LOWER KS2 PUPIL

"It is really fun because you learn loads about different parts of history.

Already in KS2 I have learnt about the stone age, The Romans, WW2,  and The Egyptians!"

UPPER KS2 PUPIL

"I really like history!  It was great learning about 1950s-2000s last year - we even got to dress up and learn some dances. It was really inspiring learning about the World Wars - what it was like for people that lived through such a difficult time."

YEAR GROUP OVERVIEWS

Below are our Year Group overviews which provide a sense of the curriculum experience children will recieve in each year group.  We recognise that each cohort are individuals and promote flexibility in themes to meet the required subject objectives.  You can see the range of History concepts taught across the school by reviewing these documents.
