PHYSICAL EDUCATION

At Rowledge C of E Primary School we recognise the importance of Physical Education to a child’s physical, cognitive, social and emotional development as well as the role it can play in a child’s spiritual, moral and cultural development. We are committed to supporting the health and wellbeing of our children and understand the impact physical activity and sport has on this.

We aim to provide a broad and balanced P.E. curriculum to aid children’s increasing self-confidence in their ability to manage themselves and their bodies within a variety of movement situations. A balance of individual, team, co-operative and competitive activities aims to cater for individual pupil’s needs and abilities.

The curriculum champion for PE is Mrs Sue Jones.  To find out more about how Rowledge delivers this subject please contact her using the following email address: s.jones@rowledge.hants.sch.uk

SCHOOL CURRICULUM

PROGRESSION & ASSESSMENT

We have aligned a progression of skills and knowledge with the programmes of study for each year group.

We are proud to work with the Complete PE scheme to ensure suitable development of skills and knowledge across different age ranges.

PUPIL VOICE

We regularly conference pupils to gain an awareness of their attitudes to a range of curriculum subjects.  Below is a sample of thoughts from a range of pupils about how they feel about the PE curriculum at Rowledge.

KS1 PUPIL

"I love PE.  We are learning hockey and I never played it until year 2.

It is a bit like football so I am able to use some of what I already know!"

LOWER KS2 PUPIL

"I like that we get to compete in sports like in sports day or playing in tournaments against other schools.

We get to apply our skills to new sports and activities!"

UPPER KS2 PUPIL

"PE is fun and it gets my heart pumping!

Recently we have been learning about netball and basketball which has been really fun."

YEAR GROUP OVERVIEWS

Below are our Year Group overviews which provide a sense of the curriculum experience children will recieve in each year group.  We recognise that each cohort are individuals and promote flexibility in themes to meet the required subject objectives.  You can see the range of PE concepts taught across the school by reviewing these documents.
